Debit Pay Type Setup and Surcharging Policy

Mastercard and Visa do not allow surcharging on DEBIT.  Because of that it is required that a DEBIT pay type be setup in the system to ensure the system knows not to surcharge it.

Please follow steps below to ensure Debit Pay Type has been created and is set where it needs to be to prevent surcharges from being added to them

Creating a Debit Pay Type

If no Debit Pay Type exists, those are made in Pay Type Codes where indicated below.  Note how the CC Surcharge grid is greyed out, because you cannot charge surcharges on Debits.  Debit pay type MUST have the Payment Type set to DEBIT to work properly.

Setting Location to use the Debit Pay Type

Verify in System Administration / Location Maintenance on the Merchant Information tab that you have a unique pay type in the Debit field.  This way when the CC reader tells POS that the card type used was a DEBIT, it knows which pay type gets assigned to the ticket:
