Cross-reference Window
Cross-reference Window
If you press F6 to view a List Window at a field where a file list is available, the lookup begins with the first item in the file. If you have many customers, vendors, etc., you might have to look at numerous screens of customers to find the right one.
The DockMaster Cross-reference Window is invoked by pressing a BACKSLASH () character followed by the search criteria. You can enter as much of an entry as you know, and then ask it to do a lookup based on what you have typed. For example, suppose you are searching for a customer that has a last name beginning with the letters ‘Ph’. You could type a backslash ‘\’ then the letters ‘Ph’ and the Cross-reference Window would start its' listing with customers who have a name starting with the letters ‘Ph’. You still have the ability to scroll backward or forward in the window, but this will help narrow down your search.
There are two golden rules when using the Cross-reference functionality;
- DO NOT put a SPACE when entering your search criteria; the cross-reference functionality will only look for a continuous string of characters (i.e. don’t enter \Tom Smith; the system will only use the word Tom to do the search.
- The more characters you type for the item you seek, the closer you’ll get to a direct hit.
