DockMaster Application Conventions
Once you choose menu item you are ready to enter new information or change existing information.
Navigating in DockMaster
The forms in DockMaster contain fields, grids, command buttons, listings, and text boxes that contain specific information or allow the user to enter or locate specific information. There are several methods available for moving from field to field. You can use the mouse to randomly select fields, the Enter key to validate entries, or you can use the TAB key to move through fields in the order they appear on the screen.
Accessing Fields Randomly
To move directly to a field, simply click on the field with your mouse. If the field contains a drop down list of value, click the drop down arrow to select the item from the dropdown list. The application will do a validation check on the field to ensure valid data is entered.
Moving Through Fields Sequentially
You may move forward through fields in order by pressing the TAB key. The sequence of fields is generally top-to-bottom and left-to-right. When you reach the last field on a form, pressing TAB again will move the focus to the icon bar.
Moving Through Data Grids
DockMaster uses a combination of data fields, data lists and data grids to display data. Data grids allow horizontal and vertical scrolling in order to view large amounts of information that will not fit into a single window. If a data grid shows or has columns that extend beyond the screen's edges its horizontal or vertical scroll bars are activated. To access these columns and rows, either click on the scroll bar arrows or drag the scroll bar. Note When entering data in grids the Enter key should be used to validate the entry, Afterwords the Tab key or mouse clicks may be used to move about the grid. Additionally to move to another field, grid, or icon on the form you must click out of the grid using the mouse.
Using The Find Panel
Many listing grids that contain more data than can be viewed in the grid have a find panel available located at the top of the grid. If its not displayed you can right click the grid column header and choose Find Panel from the drop down selection.
For example on the work order maintenance form the find panel is displayed above the operations grid and is used to filter the operation codes in the grid when the work order has many more operation codes than can be view easily in the available grid space.
To locate and item in the find panel simply start typing out a search term. it can be for any piece of data in any of the grid's columns in the example below the term "Install" was typed and all operation codes that did not contain it were removed.
To use another term simply remove the previous search term by clicking the clear button or typing over the term.
Using The Auto-filter In Grids
Certain grids that have expandable rows containing sub-detail rows of data beneath them can be filtered using the auto filter feature. For instance in the Charges Summary, Detail Search tab on work orders. If the expansion box is clicked on a detail row the auto filter row will appear at the top of the detail. It can be used to filter any of the columns in the detail grid.
Simply typing a term in any of the column headers will automatically filter using the "begins with =" function.
To filter the grid details for the term anywhere in the column simply start it with an asterisk to filter "containing = " function
