Cross Reference versus F6 Explanation

HOW CROSS REFERENCES WORK

This explanation is using the customer lookup \xref.

Regardless of the 3 characters you search for, the results will ALWAYS be displayed in customer id order, as they are stored.

When the Customer Name is rebuilt, these are the fields, in order, that they are cross referenced for the customer index.

customer name

customer id

boat name

current slip

boat letters

boat hull

customer misc info 1

customer misc info 2

customer misc info 3

home phone

work phone

cell phone

customer vendor id

customer email

customer company name

This is how the index looks for BEL.  You can see all the words that begin with BEL.  Within each word that begins with BEL, they are sorted by customer id.  When you get to BELLA, you can see customer 32920 is first and their boat name is BELLA.  Any customer who has the 3 contiguous letters BEL, will be cross referenced here.

This is the result you get when you do \BELLA - because the index only looks at first 3 letters, they Key word column are the letters you typed.

If I scroll I will eventually find the Company Name BELLA LISA

OR

Now I can type the second word of the business and it will rise right to the top

When pressing F6 for a customer listing, the results will always be listed in alphabetical last name first.  Then from the Find the search can drill down by typing any letters and/or numbers that could be found in any of the columns in the list format.  List formats can be customized to business requirements.

If I type Bella Lisa, I will get a direct hit

The rarer the combination of letters/numbers, the more direct hit you will get.

Example, a last name of Toy, would be included with all the folks who named their boats with the word 'Toy' as well as folks names, addresses, emails, etc, that begin with the letters toy - like Toyota.
