Changing Dictionary Item Length

CHANGING DICTIONARY ITEM LENGTH

 

This process can be done for any dictionary item and any file.  For this example the BM dictionary is being used.

 

In this example the length of the Insurance Co. is not long enough.  The default has a length of 14.

 

 

A new dictionary item will need to be created, as DockMaster does not provide the ability to overwrite default dictionary items.

 

 

 

Go to SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION > UTILITIES > DICTIONARY MAINTENANCE

Type the File Name BM

Then at the Dictionary Item Name press F6.  When the list opens, choose INSURANCE.CO

 

 

 

 

To Create a new dictionary item, change the AMC to Synonym (this indicates custom)

Max Length:  in this case the length will be 25

Conversion:  change the 14 to match the Max Length

Screen Tag: add the length to differentiate this dictionary item from the default.

 

When ready click the icon that says Save As

 

 

 

 

A Form opens asking what the new dictionary ID should be. 

All Custom Dictionary items MUST contain an asterisk, so we don't overwrite with each release. 

This example used the same Dictionary Item Name with an asterisk and 25

 

Click OK to Save the new Dictionary Item,

 

This dictionary item can now be used in any report that is based on the BM file.
