Create Custom Dictionary Item From A Default Dictionary Item

CREATE CUSTOM DICTIONARY ITEM FROM A DEFAULT DICTIONARY ITEM

There will be times when a dictionary item will not return the results needed.  In that case, a custom dictionary item can be created from the original, modified, and saved as a custom dictionary item.

FIRST EXAMPLE – CUSTOM PROMPTS

Custom prompts can be created from SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION > UTILITIES > CUSTOM PROMPTS >

Image

There are default dictionary items named MISC1, MISC2, MISC3, through MISC10, in each dictionary.  The files are shown above, in the drop-down menu.  These dictionary items have a default length of 25 and a default heading of Miscellaneous Field 1.

SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION > UTILITIES > DICTIONARY MAINTENANCE

  1. Type the dictionary file name that needs the dictionary item created – the examples use the Vendor File
  2. Press F6 and choose the MISC dictionary item that is going to be used. The example uses MISC1

  1. Change the appropriate fields, in this example the Length and the Heading is changed, as well as the Description and Screen Tag.  The boxes in RED are typed with the required length and Heading.  Then the Icon SAVE AS, in green circle, is clicked and opens the SAVE DICIONARY AS form opens.  NOTE: A custom dictionary MUST contain an Asterisk to avoid being overwritten by DockMaster updates.
