DICTIONARY LIST DETAILS USING ATTR COMMAND

 

The Report Generator is a programmable query tool.  Dictionary items are created to gather the data stored in customer, boat, inventory, etc., records.

 

To review current dictionary items, choose the following menu items.

SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION > UTILITIES > EXECUTE DATABASE COMMANDS

Choose the Parameter (File Name, CM, BM, etc.) The example shown is using the Order Entry file (OE).

 

Click Execute

 

 

 

 

Report Generator will open. Click Print or Print Preview and the entire list of dictionary items for the OE file is presented with the attribute AMC,

 

A means Attribute - data is stored –

S means Synonym or custom created - Data could be stored or calculated.

 

Screen Tag, Conversion, and Max Length

 

This may make it easier than pressing F6 in Dictionary Maintenance to see a comparison.

 

In this list, Comments are shown with Length of 45.  The conversion T1,45 means this is text and it should display character 1 through character 45.

If a longer field, or a shorter field is required for a report, then a new dictionary item can be created.  It will be created as a Synonym, changing the conversion and length.  It will require a new Dictionary Item Name, and to avoid confusion, a new Screen Tag that contains an asterisk.

 

NOTE: ALL CUSTOM DICTIONARY ITEMS REQUIRE AN ASTERISK (*) IN THE DICT ITEM NAME to avoid being overwritten when new releases are installed.

 

Files may contain more attributes than dictionary items.  Consequently, a DockMaster support member will need to assist in the creation of new dictionary items and/or custom programmed dictionary items.
