Changing Inventory Prices

!Important! - Be sure to back up your system and halt all part selling activities before running any price change programs. These routines make far-reaching changes and if you make an error in your entries, you may change many more items' prices than you intend. For the same reason, be sure to print a control report and check it when you are through.

DockMaster allows you to establish multiple selling prices for each item in your inventory. Retail Price (price column 1) is the price you most often charge for an item. Selling Prices 2 - 5 may be alternate selling prices, such as a group discount price, a special sale price, or the price of the item when sold to another marina.

There are three ways to increase or decrease inventory selling prices for an item or group of items in the DockMaster application:

  • Price change using Price Factors allow you to increase or decrease selected selling prices and/or vendor cost by a percentage based on cost or retail price. The Inventory Maintenance program has a Price Factor field that allows you to attach a different Price Factor to each part.

  • You can calculate a price change on an individual item through the Inventory Maintenance program once a Price Factor has been attached to the part by pressing the Apply Price Factor button.

  • Price Changes by Percent allows you to increase or decrease all selling prices for a specific part, department, vendor or price range by a fixed percentage.

To make price changes for a group of items, follow these steps:

  • Create a Price Factor through Price Factor Maintenance that makes the required percentage increase or decrease in prices.

  • Attach the price factor to all parts needing updates.

  • Run the program Price Change Using Factor to calculate the new price changes. Note: This routine does not update prices or costs, it only calculates the changes.

  • Run the program Update Inventory Price/Cost to make the actual price or cost changes in the Inventory File.

  • The program Price Changes by Percent allows you to increase or decrease all selling prices for a specific part, department, vendor, or price range by a fixed percentage. For example, increase all selling prices for clothing accessories by 2%. You can also set the decimal ending on parts using this program; for example, make all prices end in .99 cents.
