Tip Processing in Point Of Sale
Tip Processing
Tips can be processed in POS for sales transactions if the parameters have been defined in the POS parameters.
POS parameters must be defined for tips:
- Tips GL account on the General tab.
- Cash Tips pay type on the Cash Register tab.
- Tip processing flag checked on Miscellaneous tab.
Requirements:
- Credit card integration with proper merchant account defined for accepting tips.
- Receipt printer for tip receipts.
- Once the Tip transaction has been started the ticket must either be completed as a
Tipped transaction, or the ticket must be voided. - Only Clerks that are Super users or those that have been assigned the capability
can remove an item from a ticket once the check has been printed. Set the override
from the menu by selecting, System Administration, Security, Processes,
Remove POS line items
Note: Tips, regardless of type (cash, check, house, credit card) are included in the daily register totals by pay type. If you allow staff to cash out their tips from the register prior to closing the day you will need to track those cash outs using the Paid Outs function located at Functions, Paid Outs.
1. Print Check Button:
Here is the Print Check Button that must be hit to put a POS ticket into 'tip processing mode'. This button becomes available when following prerequisite steps above.
The check prints, and your attendee brings it to the customer, and that puts the ticket into the Partial Status below:
2.) Partial Status.
Ticket is now in the Partial Status while attendee waits on customer to give a form of payment:
Attendee returns with form of payment and selects the ticket through Recall Ticket above.
3.) Finish/Pay button
Ticket is recalled, clerk has cash/card in hand, clerk selects 'Finish Pay' to take the payment.
Now the Finish Pay screen has a SAVE button where there usually is a COMPLETE button. That is what is hit to take the payment / pre-authorize the charge
4.) Waiting On Tip
Hitting SAVE after pay type chosen is what prints the signature slip and puts the ticket into the Waiting on Tip status.
Customer is handed receipt with the signature slip and thanked for their time.
There is one last step that still needs completed but the clerk does not have to do it now. We recommend this be done by the clerk when they have some downtime, or perhaps they can enter all of their tips at the end of their shift.
5.) Entering Tip
Recall that ticket, hit the TIPS button:
Enter the tip amount. Cash is always an option. Had I done a CC for initial charge that would also be listed as an option for the tip.
Note the Tip Amount on the left. Hit Complete to complete the ticket and make it available to batch.
