Time Entry Basics

Time Entry

Just like everything else in DockMaster, there is more than one way to enter a Labor on a Service Work Order. In addition to adding Labor directly on the Work Order, you can also use Timecard Entry and Time Clock Entry.

Time Card Entry

The Time Card Entry method allows you to enter in a technician’s time utilizing one main entry window. In this one screen, you can pull up a technician and add all of his/her time on all the work orders this technician is working on. If your technicians fill out time cards to track their work, these time cards can be entered quickly and easily using Time Card Entry. Another great feature of Time Card Entry is that more than one person can be entering in Time Cards at the same time (as long as it is for a different technician). All the information in Time Card Entry will update to the Work Order when it is saved.

Time Clock Entry

The Time Clock entry method works just like punching in and out of a time clock. If your technician’s are used to punching in and out on jobs, then Time Clock entry would work for you. DockMaster recommends setting up a dedicated workstation, just for clocking in and out of jobs. When the technician starts a job, he/she would go to the computer and pull up the work order and clock in, which would enter a start time. When the job is complete, the technician would go back to the computer and enter a stop time. The clocking in and out can be made easier through the use of Job Cards. Job Cards will have a barcode on them, which can be scanned in the Time Clock entry window. If you are interested in finding out more about Job Cards, ask your System Administrator.

Identify Users

The Service Writers will use Time Card Entry. Service Writers will add the labor time to the customer’s work order. The Service Technicians will mainly use Time Clock Entry. The Technicians will clock in and out of jobs using a specified workstation.

To access Time Card Entry from the menu select, Service Management, Maintenance Functions, Time Cards or Time Clock.
