Category Codes
Work Order Category Code Maintenance
Purpose To organize your Work Orders into groups for reporting purposes. These categories are user-defined, and are not required to process a Work Order.
For example, you could categorize your Warranty Work Orders into two groups; hull work or engine work and assign each type a one-digit code.

Grouping your Work Orders in this manner allows you to review the number of warranty Work Orders that require hull or engine repairs.
Customers who have multiple service locations can use the Work Order category field to dictate which location is writing the Work Order and to define the accounting. This will enable you to run income and cost reports by location.
For example, you can set up a group of categories for a location incorporating the cost centers from the GL This will help track the type of work orders and accounting at each of the locations.

From the menu select Service, Maintenance Functions, Category Codes.
Work Order Category Code Maintenance
- Category Code- Enter any combination of up to 5 letters or numbers or press F6 to get a list of existing codes.
- Description- Enter a Description of the code using any combination of up to 25 letters and/or numbers.
- Labor Department- Using the Department Hierarchy, if a Labor Department were entered here, the department would supercede the default Labor Department on the work order. The Labor Department is not a required field.
- Parts Department- Using the Departmental Hierarchy, if a Parts Department were entered here, the department would supercede the default Parts Department on the work order. The Parts Department is not a required field.
- When you have filled out the necessary information, press the Save button from the Command Panel.
- To Delete a Category Code, pull up the code from the Category Code field and press the Delete button from the Command Panel. Note: If the Category Code is active on a work order, the code will stay with the work order, but the code description will be missing.
