General Ledger - Overview

The General Ledger module is the foundation of DockMaster's Financial System. It summarizes all of the transactions from each module's sub-ledger, providing you with an accurate, timely picture of your company's fiscal activities. General Ledger provides you with the tools to produce a variety of financial reports that can be customized for your specific requirements.

Versatile Accounting Structure

  • Meets company-specific requirements through a flexible and easy-to-create chart accounts. An account number can be up to twelve (12) digits with no limit on the number of accounts.
  • Maintains separate ledgers for an unlimited number of companies, divisions or profit centers. You can keep track of different unrelated companies or maintain General Ledger for a master company and a series of related subsidiary companies. Duplicating a chart of accounts for budget a new company is quick and easy.
  • Allows easy consolidation of separate ledgers whether the companies are unrelated or subsidiary. No importing or exporting of data is required.
  • Maintains an unlimited number of years of historical data. This information can be reported on at any time.

Powerful Financial Reporting

  • Contains a report-building program that lets you easily design an unlimited number of financial reports, such as Income Statements, Balance Sheets, Statement of Cash Flow, Statement of Retained Earnings and Summary Schedules.
  • Provides reporting features, such as rounding, column and row calculations and ratios; produces monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual comparative statements with an unlimited number of columns.
  • Prints both consolidated and departmentalized financial statements.

Other Important Features

  • Multiple accounting periods or years may remain open at the same time, with no need to close one period (roll balances) before posting to the next.
  • Handles monthly recurring journal Transactions, automatic reversing entries, and automatic reallocation of account balances to other accounts.
  • Posting from other modules (subsidiary ledgers) can be set to post manually by the user or automatically by the system.
  • Posts transactions to any period in a previous year.
  • Maintains extensive audit trails; posted transactions retain the posting number, original batch number, and journal/module source code.
  • Keeps an unlimited number of transactions for audit analysis by G/L account number, date, period, source code, batch number or journal number.
  • Sets budgets manually or from existing account data, using features, such as percentage or fixed growth and equal monthly allocations. Also allows seasonal spread codes by account number.
  • Defines fiscal periods by date ranges; provides option to manually close fiscal periods to prevent further postings or adjustments. Note: Accounting Maintenance should be performed when users are NOT on the system.
  • Performs automatic error trapping to ensure data integrity; allows only balanced posting to accounts.

Interface with other Modules

  • Each module has its own subsidiary ledger that can be posted automatically or manually to the General Ledger.
  • Financial Reports can be easily exported to other spreadsheet and word processing programs.
