Open/Close G/L Accounting Periods

Open/Close G/L Accounting Periods

From the menu select General Ledger > Administrative > Open/Close G/L Accounting Periods

This program allows you to open and close accounting periods. Warning: Any closed period after the one you are re-opening will also be opened. Closing an accounting period stops any posting, billing, and invoicing routines from accessing this period.

Note: This process does not reverse any journal entries created through the year-end closing process. If you are re-opening a year-end to make adjusting entries, you can either reverse the original closing journal Transactions or simply make your adjustments and run the Year-end Closing process again.

General Rules If you re-open a period, all periods after this period will also be re-opened.

  • You cannot close a period and leave periods prior to this date open; you will get the error message: Period YYNN must be closed first. Close all previous periods.

**WARNING ACCOUNTING PERIODS SHOULD NOT BE CLOSED WHILE USERS ARE ON THE SYSTEM. WE SUGGEST WAITING TO CLOSE ACCOUNTING PERIODS AT THE END OF THE BUSINESS DAY.**
