Tax Schemas [FM]

Tax Schemas

From the DockMaster menu, select File Maintenance > Tax Info > Tax Schemas

Prerequisite: Must have all your Tax Schemas created through Tax Schema Maintenance.

Tax Schemas allow you to assign taxes that are applied in the Point of Sale, Service and Boat Sales Modules.

1 General Tab

  • The General Tab will calculate taxes in Point of Sale and Storage & Billing Modules. You are given a maximum of 6 tax levels to create 6 different tax calculations.

  • Select the 1 General Tab. Click in the Tax Schema box and enter in your Tax Schema ID. The Id can be up to 6 alphanumeric characters. Press Enter when finished.

  • Enter in a description to the right of the Tax Schema ID. The description can be up to 40 characters long.

  • Click in the Tax Code field next to Level 1 in the Default Tax Codes grid.

  • Enter in a valid Tax Code. If you do not know the Tax Code ID select the List F6 from the Command Panel or press F6 for a list of Tax Codes.

  • To clear a row, select the Clear Row F7 from the Command Panel or press F7.

  • To save your new Tax Schema, press the Save button from the Command Panel.

    Note: If additional Tax Codes are necessary in the Tax Schema, enter them in the remaining Tax Code Levels. These codes may be for City, State, or County Taxes.

  • Sales Tax Program: The Sales Tax Program will only be used if a customer requires an additional tax program to be calculated.

2 Service Tab

The Service Tab will calculate taxes in the Service Module only. Tax schemas are used for Parts, Labor, Sublet, Freight, Mileage, Equipment, Environmental, Other, and Miscellaneous work on a Service Work Order. The type of operation breaks down these types of jobs. These operations are Retail, Warranty, Internal, Rigging, Prep or Assembly. If the operation requires a specific type of taxing, then enter in the correct Service Tax Schema in the appropriate Level. Note: It is not required that all the tax levels be filled in, just the ones that pertain to your state tax laws.

Prerequisite: Must have all your Tax Schemas created through Tax Schema Maintenance.

  • Enter in a valid Tax Schema ID or select List F6 from the Command Panel or simply press F6 for a list of Tax Schemas.
  • To enter in a Tax Schema for an operation, click in the Level 1 Tax Schema field next to the corresponding Operation.
  • Press the Enter key to move to the next column to the right.
  • If parts are taxed only when greater than zero, put a check mark in the Tax when parts are > 0 column. (To place a check mark, just click with your mouse in the corresponding box)
  • If customers only tax over cost and not retail, put a check mark in the Tax only over Cost column.
  • To clear a row of taxes, select the Clear Row F7 from the Command Panel or press the F7 key.
  • When finished, press the Save button in the Command Panel.

3 Boat Sales Tab

Purpose: The Boat Sales Tax Schemas will tell the system which Tax Schemas to use in a Boat Sales Contract.

A list of items that can be taxed are located in the Description column to the left of the grid. Each item has six levels of taxes and a Tax only over Cost. These Tax Levels will be able to handle multiple tax calculations to accommodate boat sales in different states, cities, or counties.

Prerequisite: Must have all your Tax Schemas created through Tax Schema Maintenance.

  • To enter in a Tax Schema for a boat sales contract, click in the Level 1 Tax Schema field next to the corresponding item to be taxed. For example: Boat & Options.
  • Enter in a valid Tax Schemas or select List F6 from the Command Panel or simply press F6 for a list of Tax Schemas.
  • Press the Enter key to move to the next column to the right.
  • If customers tax only over cost and not retail, put a check mark in the Tax only over Cost column.
  • To clear a row of taxes, select the Clear Row F7 from the Command Panel or press the F7 key.
  • When finished, press the Save button in the Command Panel.
