PDF Options Menu
PDF Options Menu
The layout designer PDF options menu contains the options for saving remote stored PDF file to the local workstation as well as loading the local stored PDF to a remote server or another database. The menu options work in conjunction with saving the PDF's XML code to the local workstation.
Save PDF - This menu item copies the merged PDF file from the remote server to the local workstation. Note the Save PDF option only copies down the PDF file not the associated xml code.
Load PDF - This menu item will load the local stored PDF file to the remote server or another remote database.
Copy PDF to Remote Server
The steps below outline how to copy the merged PDF file to a remote server to allow other users to access the PDF file for merging. The PDF and its associated XML code must have already been maintained and saved on the local workstation.
- Open Layout Designer and connect to the database that contains the PDF layout to be copied.
- From the designer pallet click File on the menu bar and open the PDF layout that will be copied.
- The PDF Options menu item will appear in the menu bar.
- From the menu bar click PDF Options, Save PDF. When the save as form appears select a folder to save the PDF file in and click save. Change the name if needed otherwise it can be left the same.
- From the menu bar click File, Local, Save Local. When the save as form appears select the same folder as the PDF file to save the PDF's XML code to the local workstation. Enter a unique name for the file and make a note of it for later.
- Close the layout and exit, then re-open Layout Designer and connect to the database that the PDF will be saved to.
- From the designer pallet click File, Local, Open Local, and select the XML file that was saved in step 5 above.
- Verify that the layout is correct and make any changes to the merge data fields that are needed.
