Tax Info [FL]
Tax Info
From the DockMaster menu, select File Maintenance > Tax Info
Prerequisite: Chart of Accounts, if General Ledger is installed.
Tax Info enables your company to charge county, city and/or other miscellaneous taxes. The Tax Information section contains all the necessary codes that need to be maintained for the Universal Tax Routine. The Universal Tax Routine will integrate with all the modules and their respective taxing schemas. The Universal Tax Scheme is a universal routine to be used by DockMaster for calculating taxes and/or storing taxes.
Tax schemas can be assigned in the following files: Customer File, Bill Codes and Postal Codes. A Tax Code can be assigned to transactions in the Point of Sale, Work Order Maintenance and Boat Sales Contract programs. A detail report of each tax code is tracked separately in the Universal Sales Tax Report in Accounts Receivable.
Important: All line items sent into the Universal Tax Routine should have a schema. If a customer wants to make a line item non-taxable to override the tax amount being calculated, then the user would have to put on the NON-TAXABLE schema. Example of how the Tax Hierarchy works is shown below.
Tax Hierarchy
The hierarchy for determining which Tax Schema to use is as follows:
From Specific to more General
- The line-item Tax Schema.
- The Documents overridden Tax Schema. If the document has a specific Tax Schema assigned, it will calculate accordingly.
- The Customer's Postal Code Tax Schema or Customer Tax Schema. Will not look at alternate postal code if flag is set. Alternate postal code flag for printing statements.
- The Location Code's Postal Code Tax Schema.
